Client Cameo: Sandy & Andy E.

We are pleased to introduce Sandy and Andy E. who are one of Cultivate's most dynamic duos, as our featured Volunteers of the Month. They both volunteer for Carry-Out Caravan and Sandy is also one of our VetsGo drivers!

For Sandy and Andy, volunteering is ingrained into their daily life.  In addition to volunteering weekly for Cultivate, they also both volunteer and support the thriving local running community by officiating or assisting at local running events. Andy also volunteers building houses with Habitat for Humanity.  Sandy is an active member of the Boulder Garden Club (currently president)

They are both retired: Andy from the computer technical world and Sandy from nursing. Therefore, doing something everyday to help someone else seems natural and normal.

Andy grew up in Southern California.  Sandy grew up in Wisconsin and moved to San Francisco in 1968, where they met.  The person who introduced them to each other was Hector.  His kindness and willingness to talk to anyone has been one of their guiding lights.  They have now been married for over fifty years.   When not volunteering, they travel to all parts of the world.  Learning and experiencing other cultures is in their bones.  Andy was in the Peace Corps in West Africa and then drafted into the Army (with a year in Vietnam). Sandy hitchhiked around Australia and New Zealand for a year with her sister. Thus, the wanderlust and curiosity of the world.  They have been to about 75 countries with more on the list!!!

They volunteered with Carry-Out Caravan throughout the pandemic as they knew it was necessary and they were willing to take the chance. They say their words of wisdom would be to “go at your own risk."  They believe that "Life is about taking a chance and trusting your choices." They are grateful for each other and the chance to live a life of harmony and peace in a world where kindness matters. 

Cultivate is grateful for the dedication and loyalty they have exhibited during the past 5+ years that they have been volunteering with us.  They were such a big part of our Carry-Out Caravan teams during the pandemic.  Sandy did double duty, delivering groceries on Wednesdays and then shopping for groceries on Thursdays.  We were happy when she recruited Andy to shop for us as well!  We can count on them to be some of the first shoppers at the store each week, unless they are off on one of their worldly adventures!  They have been so gracious to even host gatherings for our fellow volunteers because they have been so personable and have fostered friendships with our staff, clients and volunteers.

Thank you Sandy and Andy!  Cultivate appreciates all your generosity of time, donations, reliability and advocacy!  We are so lucky to have amazing volunteers like the both of you!
