Quentin W. is our latest Client Cameo. He's a World War II survivor and has been a Cultivate client since 2013. Quentin was born in Fort Madison, Iowa and was drafted into the Army when he was 18. He did his training in Sacramento, California. Quentin did his basic training in Pearl Harbor and spent time in the 81st Infantry, which is attached to the 1st Marine division. He spent time on the islands of Okinawa, Iwo Jima, and then on the Philippines with General McArthur on Manilla and Leyte. Quentin was promoted to Sergeant after his First Sergeant was wounded, and he went on to be stationed on the island of Peleliu in 1944 where he, unfortunately, witnessed a lot of soldiers being wounded and killed. Quinten operated the machine gun in Peleliu for about six months until the war ended in December of 1945 and then was transferred to Japan for three months.
He came home to Fort Madison in 1946 and got married to his high school sweetheart Alberta. Quentin worked at Sheaffer Pen Company until they came to Colorado on vacation and liked it so much that they moved to Boulder in 1956. In Colorado, he worked at Rocky Flats for 30 years until he retired. This April, Quentin and Alberta were blessed to celebrate their 76th wedding anniversary! Quentin is 97 and Alberta is 94. They have two children, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Their son lives in Idaho and their daughter lives in Boulder. Quentin enjoys the Colorado Mountains, the wildlife and still loves to fish when he can.
Quentin says that Mitchell Elder, Program Specialist here at Cultivate, has been a great help. Thanks to Mitchell's coordination, they use our YardBusters program, the Fix-It program for pesky, small home repairs and have even gotten repairs done to his wheelchair. Quentin says that the help from Cultivate has allowed him and Alberta to remain in their longtime home in Boulder.
Thank you, Quentin, for your military service and protecting our country. It is an honor to now serve you as a client of Cultivate! We wish you and your wife a very Happy Anniversary and are so inspired by your lifetime of love.
