2023 May Volunteer of the Month Bob P.
We would like to introduce Bob P. our latest Volunteer of Month. Bob has been with Cultivate and RSVP for over TWENTY years, when he was asked by another volunteer to deliver groceries for RSVP, the predecessor of Cultivate. He has been a dedicated delivery driver in Longmont ever since! Even though he has been a regular driver for Carry-Out Caravan over the past two decades, Bob is so humble he doesn't feel that he does that much for Cultivate! Our clients and organization think otherwise, as his longevity has made such an impact on so many over the years!
Bob grew up in Davis, California, when it was relatively small and only had about 5000 residents. (Now it has 67,000 residents and a University of California campus with 35,000 students!) Times were simpler then, and Bob followed the common path from his era of going to college, finding a job, and getting married. His first job was serving in the US Army in Germany for two years. He then worked as a cooperative extension specialist in Agricultural Engineering for the University of California and later for Cornell University. He finished his career in Atlanta working for a technical society for heating and air-conditioning engineers. Though Bob has many proud and honored moments in his life his top ones are being married to his wife Ann, having children, and grandchildren. Other prideful moments include the feeling after finishing a long bike ride or hike, as well as being president to two Rotary clubs.
Hiking and traveling are some of Bob's favorite hobbies. Now he enjoys being outdoors and hiking in the high mountains. In the past he enjoyed bicycling and he did many long-distance rides, including riding from Victoria, BC to Boulder and the San Juan Islands to San Diego! Bob and Ann have done a lot of touring together and he says they would like to tour Australia and New Zealand.
Bob has such a positive attitude and his advice to others is to "Enjoy the day!" He says there are many perfect days. Enjoying the outdoors, delivering for both Carry-Out Caravan and Meals on Wheels, and going to Rotary are some of the things that make his days good! The three words he would want to describe the legacy he hopes he's building is "He showed up!" Which, we at Cultivate, can attest to with his decades of dedication to delivering groceries to our Carry-Out Caravan clients week after week, come rain, snow or shine! Bob says he enjoys the volunteering he does because he gets to greet people and have interaction with clients.
Thank you, Bob, for being such a dedicated volunteer and making such a difference in our clients lives as a constant person who shows up week after week to deliver their groceries. We are so blessed to have you as one of our longest serving volunteers at Cultivate. You definitely are living up to the legacy you hope to leave behind by always showing up!
