April 2022 Client Cameo: Betty H.

By Cam Low

Betty H. is this month's Client Cameo.  Betty was born and raised on a farm in Sterling, Colorado and is the eldest of three sisters.  She says she was raised in a simpler and honest time when nothing but a handshake was needed to finalize a deal, and you didn't have to lock your doors.  Betty and her family worked in the fields when they used horses and not tractors.  Betty went to Lutheran school for eight years before attending and graduating from Sterling High School where she was once crowned Homecoming Queen!  After high school, she moved to Denver to attend Central Business College and got her degree in accounting.  She worked as an accountant for her entire career and still pays her own bills and balances her checkbook to the penny each month!

Betty has a very close knit family.  Most of her three-generation family still lives within a mile of each other!  She has three children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and says she is very lucky to have her family.  Betty is very thankful for what she has and is proud that she is strong enough to continue to live independently at the age of 89.  In her younger days, Betty had a passion for playing golf but is now content to play cards with her sisters. She has gracefully accepted the evolution of aging, though she does miss being able to drive.  Last month, she was so excited to get out to the Broomfield Senior Center and celebrate Fat Tuesday with her sister and her husband.

Betty has been a Carry-Out Caravan client since the start of the pandemic in 2020, and she raves that our services have made such a huge difference in her life since she cannot shop for herself anymore and hasn't been to the store in years.  She is very fond of her delivery drivers and cherishes the connections she has made with them.  Betty is so appreciative that Steve, Emily, Lauren and Kim know exactly where to put her groceries in her kitchen, and she really enjoys the time they get to share together each week or in the past.

We are so happy that we can assist Betty as she continues to live independently and she can receive her groceries as she ages gracefully.  We know our volunteers really care about Betty and value the bond they have made with her over the years.  Thank you, Betty, for your loyalty and using Carry-Out Caravan to do your shopping week after week!
