Celebrating National Service

Early this month we celebrated volunteerism. Well, we do that everyday, but on April 2nd we celebrated with food, balloons, and awards. It was National Service Recognition Day and our office was filled with volunteers, staff, and board members. Not everyone in our community was able to attend the party, so we wanted to share it with you here.

National Service Recognition Day is a yearly celebration that happens across the country as organizations and local leaders recognize the contributions of volunteers in their community. The event is led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the organization behind AmeriCorps and Senior Corps.

In the weeks leading up to April 2nd, we were hard at work here in the Cultivate office. Food was ordered. Important decisions regarding balloon colors were made. And we somehow managed to come up with only one award for each volunteer.

Our recognition party was a blast. Around 40 volunteers from across our programs and community joined us, and we were thrilled to celebrate their contributions. For many of our volunteers who work individually with clients, it was the first time they were meeting many of the other volunteers they’re always hearing so much about. We capped off the event by giving out volunteer awards—everything from the Jack-of-all-Trades Volunteer Award to the Silver Snow Shovel Award.

We strive to celebrate volunteerism every day through meaningful volunteer opportunities and regular recognition, but it’s nice to have an extra reason to gather together over food, conversation, and appreciation. To all our volunteers who weren’t able to make it to the party: thank you for everything you do to help our senior neighbors! If you’re not yet volunteering with Cultivate, let us know and we’ll help you get started.
