Client Cameo: Phil Youngren
Phil Youngren is our current Client Cameo. He grew up in Pueblo, Colorado, with his mother, father and brother. After graduating from high school, Phil joined the Air Force and was in the Special Services for three years, nine months and twenty seven days and was stationed in Texas. After serving, he returned home to Pueblo and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley. They have been married for over sixty years and have three daughters and five grown grandchildren.
Phil worked for the City of Boulder in their engineering department as a technician for ten years, then later worked as a consultant at different engineering firms. His hobbies include flying radio-controlled model aircrafts and being outside enjoying nature. He was also very involved with volunteering for Boulder Community Food Share and Hospice Boulder.
Seven years ago Phil lost his leg to cancer but has continued to thrive with the help of his family and support from his church. He is also grateful for the assistance he has received from the Cultivate programs they use. He says the YardBusters and Fix-It programs have been so wonderful and especially helpful in order for them continue to live in their home. Phil was so appreciative that the Cultivate Fix-It volunteer was able to salvage his wheelchair ramp by just repainting it when they originally thought it needed to be entirely replaced.
It is such an honor and so rewarding to be able to help such wonderful clients like Phil and his wife. Thank you for sharing your story with Cultivate!
