Client Cameo: Sally H.

By Cam Low

We would like to introduce Sally H. as our January Client Cameo.  Sally is one of our Carry-Out Caravan clients in Broomfield.  She was born and raised in Minnesota and landed in Colorado after her husband was transferred here with IBM.  Together they have four children, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  They have also lived in the same house in Broomfield for 50 years!  Sally worked at StorageTek for 13 years as a Senior Engineering Assistant.

Since retiring, Sally has devoted the majority of her time to volunteering.  Initially she wanted to work with children, but switched to working with seniors.  She remembers her mother always telling her "to always be nice to seniors because someday you're going to be one!"   Sally believes that volunteering and being involved in your community is the most rewarding thing you can do.  For over twenty years Sally has volunteered at Senior Resources of Broomfield.  She started in 1995 working at the front desk as a receptionist and then volunteered helping with the Melodrama the center used to produce every year as well as helping with their annual Autumn Gala securing sponsors and donors as well as acquiring door prizes and more.  Sally also volunteers when she can at her church, Precious Child and at the Bouquet Boutique as a greeter. Sally was honored as a Channel 7 Everyday Hero in 2011 for her work implementing the Senior Art Cart, which helps source funding for seniors unable to afford the full cost of receiving Meals on Wheels and for her other work for seniors in Broomfield.  In 2016 she was the recipient of the Heart of Broomfield Senior award which recognizes an outstanding community member who is 65 and older.

Sally has been one of our clients since we started Carry-Out Caravan in Broomfield at the beginning of the pandemic.  She first heard about our services through the Senior Center and has been a great advocate referring Cultivate to other seniors. She is so appreciative of our service and says Carry-Out Caravan has been such a huge help for both her and her husband since they have health issues and aren't able to get around easily.  Sally absolutely adores our volunteer order taker Barbara, whom she places her grocery order with each week.  She loves the friendship they've developed over the phone and how Barbara automatically knows what her husband's favorite items are before she requests them!  We have had the privilege of getting to know Sally, personally, when our organizations volunteer together at the same events.  Once you've met her, you'll notice and remember her distinct style, flare and outgoing personality!

Thank you, Sally, for being such an amazing advocate for seniors, Cultivate and proof that you are never too old to volunteer!
