Client Cameo: Tom Cahill

By Cam Low

Tom Cahill is well known for his optimism and kind spirit, despite the serious seizure he endured nearly 20 years ago, leaving him in a week-long coma with permanent brain damage. Tom grew up in Leeds, Missouri, with his sister, Terri. Feeling inspired after visiting Terri in Colorado, he eventually migrated to the Centennial State himself. Tom is an avid outdoor enthusiast; he especially enjoys hunting, fishing, and camping. Prior to his seizure, he would travel across the Western Slope and high country by way of profession. These various opportunities included working as a rancher, tree trimmer, and meter reader.

Tom currently resides in Boulder and cherishes the time he spends volunteering with Rocky Mountain Riding Therapy. Come rain, snow, or shine, he has consistently volunteered two to five days a week with the nonprofit for the past 18 years. He is passionate about working with the horses and values spending time with the instructors and ranchers. Working in the stables has been life-changing for Tom. He has gained a greater sense of purpose and working with others allows him to feel more connected to his community.

Tom has been a member of the Cultivate family since April 2020. Cultivate’s grocery service, Carry-Out Caravan, has not only helped Tom, but also his sister and caregiver, Terri. She can no longer easily shop for him due to an injury of her own. Tom and Terri are appreciative of the volunteers who shop and deliver his orders. They are especially grateful for the friendships they have established with the weekly volunteers. Carry-Out Caravan is a dependable and reliable grocery delivery service. Cultivate has given Tom and Terri peace of mind, especially during these uncertain times.
