The Heart of a Community

Do you remember your first library card? The thrill of having a card that belonged just to you. The seemingly endless possibilities for adventure and intrigue in the pages of a book. Nowadays, libraries have a wealth of resources beyond the bestsellers. Libraries are a hub for community connection and offer the public opportunities for education, entertainment, and togetherness. We’re lucky to have a number of wonderful libraries in the area. Stick around as we explore a few.

Boulder Library

Just a short distance away from Pearl Street Mall and right off the Boulder Creek Bike Path sits the Boulder Public Library. It’s beautiful architecture is almost as impressive as all the resources it has to offer! Check out a book club focused on Western America. If you’re in need of technological assistance, stop by the library on Tuesday evenings or Saturday morning. For a midday musical interlude, visit the library on the third Tuesday of the month for a live concert featuring a different musical group every month. And don’t miss any of their other regular event options.

Longmont Library

In the heart of the historic old town area of Longmont, the Longmont Public Library is a warm and welcoming community space. Find a cozy chair amongst the shelves and settle in with a good book or stop by the library for one of many events happening throughout the week. 

With your Longmont library card, you have access to a wealth of resources that are hard (or expensive) to get your hands on otherwise. Check out The Great Courses or Lynda.com, two popular learning sites covering a variety of topics that you can access for free with your library card. If you’re a genealogy buff or looking to dive into your family history for the first time, the Longmont Library has librarians on-staff and a number of opportunities for genealogy research, including a monthly event with volunteers from the Longmont Genealogical Society.

Louisville Library

If you haven’t visited downtown Louisville, take this as your cue to do so. It’s a wonderful place! It’s also where you’ll find the Louisville Library. The beautiful brick building will capture your attention before you step in the door. Once inside, enjoy the plentiful titles and art exhibits from local artists. 

If you’re interested in an adventure outside of a book, visit a state park with the Check Out Colorado State Parks Program. You can check out a backpack with a park pass hang-tag, binoculars, a wildlife guide, and activity idea list. Always wanted to start a bookclub? Grab a Book Club Bag with eight copies of a popular paperback book, discussion questions, an author profile and more for an easy way to get your book club off the ground. And join the Louisville Library and the Rocky Mountain Chapter of Credit Unions for a free financial education series on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, or check out their calendar of events happening throughout the year.

Broomfield Library

Have you ever been to the Broomfield Library? If not, you should fix that. Not only because libraries deserve our love, but because the Broomfield Library and the surrounding area is beautiful. The library is surrounded by green space, close to a small lake, and has an incredible view of the mountains. And that’s all before you step inside the building! 

Once inside, sign up for a book group or check out a digital magazine. If you’re a movie buff, your Broomfield Library card gives you access to hundreds of free movies through Kanopy. Learn more about their Home Service program or check out their other resources for learning a language, downloading digital books, and much more. 

Erie Library

Erie Community Library is the youngest library on this list, having opened in 2008. But don’t discount this youngster. There’s no better place to read a book than in front of a fireplace and Erie Community Library has one ready to toast your toes, so stop by the living room and kick back with a page-turner. 

Visit the Peace Garden on the north side of the building, which was designed with famous children’s literature in mind. It’s not just books you can check out either. Library card holders can borrow specialty items like laptops, telescopes, projectors, or a state park pass. Check out their calendar of events for activities happening almost every day of the week, like their Active Adults Games and Coffee event.
