Volunteer of the Month: Donna Sekich

By Cam Low

We are happy to introduce this month’s wonderful Volunteer of the Month, Donna Sekich! A true Colorado native, Donna was born and raised on a farm in Longmont and knows all there is to know about farm animals. As a child, Donna’s ambition was to become a nurse and was always reading books about nursing. Her first job, as a teenager,  was serving ice cream in a local ice cream shop. Donna graduated from Longmont High school and had so much ambition that it was challenging to find the time to accomplish everything she wanted to. “I wanted to do so much that I never had time for extra things,” Donna says.

These days Donna enjoys going to church, playing cards, golf, travel and spending time with her family and kids. Family is a very important part of her life and says she is most proud of the children she has raised. “I enjoy seeing them grow and become owners of their own businesses. I am so proud of them!” A family trip has been on their bucket list for a long time and Donna is hoping they can finally make it happen in 2022.

A perfect day for Donna is to wake up to a cup of coffee, watch a good morning show, then go out to golf, followed by a walk or a trip up to Estes Park to enjoy a day up there. Hardworking, friendly, and dependable are the three words that describe Donna. Donna never starts anything she can’t finish. You can depend on her to be there when you need her (and you’ll never have to remind her!).  And she always makes everyone feel welcome and is there to help with anything if she can. Donna likes to give back because of what she’s received.  “If I am able to do it, why not? Life has given me so much and God has given me the opportunity to still help and be dependable at my age, so why not help others if I can?”

But she uses her time wisely. She chose to volunteer for our Carry-Out Caravan because she likes the program duties, how the program runs and is able to help people that can’t go out or are in a wheelchair. “I enjoy meeting new people and the team at Longmont Carry-Out Caravan is like a second family. I enjoy talking to clients. And hearing about their   challenges keeps me feeling positive and good.”

There are two people in Donna’s life that helped her become who she is. Her mom and a special teacher. They taught her how to take care of a house and family, how to love yourself the way you are, and that right or wrong, never regret a decision.

Donna was nominated as Volunteer of the Month because she is such an asset to our volunteer team in Longmont. She is one of the first to arrive at the store and one of the last to leave. She is one of our best shoppers (the clients always rave about her!) and is happy to help out in other areas as well. Always smiling, Donna has a great sense of humor and it’s truly an honor having her on our team. Thank you so much, Donna!
