Volunteer Spotlight: Marcy Hayes
This month’s Volunteer of the Month, Marcia Hayes, has an impressive 10 years of volunteer service with the Longmont Carry-Out Caravan program! She is a great shopper with amazing attention to even the smallest of details. She also pitches in to cover other positions at the store anytime it’s needed.
Marcia enjoys volunteering with Cultivate because of the flexibility, the ease of the work, and how it helps the Longmont community. She feels volunteer service is important because it helps those who can’t always do things for themselves. She has great admiration for her mom who helped instill this value into their whole family. “My mom was such a hard worker, she taught us so much and so many things that helped shape me into the woman I am now. I like working hard and helping others when I can. I hope that the younger generations keep working hard and be aware of what you do and why you do it.”
Marcia grew up in Kansas and came to Colorado, intending to stay for just a year. But she and her family fell in love with Colorado and decided to stay for the long term. Her first job, like many of us, was babysitting and her proudest moment was bringing her son into the world.
Marcia describes herself as kind, patient and friendly. She acknowledges that things are always changing so we have to be accepting of that change and go with the flow of it. “Adjusting to change is just something we have to do. We might not agree with it, but it usually turns out fine. So be patient!”
One of Marcia’s biggest pleasures is playing tennis with her husband; they used to play in a league but now it’s just for fun. Her perfect day is to wake up, have a good cup of coffee, then off to play tennis. Next, she would read a good book outside, followed by a nice hike. The day would end with a delicious dinner out. “I love food, so I enjoy going almost anywhere for a good meal.” And while hiking in Colorado is one of her favorite things to do, she would love to explore other areas, especially Canada. Because of COVID, she wasn’t able to do much hiking this past year and is excited to do more in 2021.
If you’re lucky, you might meet her on the trails and after a few moments of conversing, you’ll realize why she’s our Volunteer of the Month. She’s a very giving person and Cultivate is honored to have her in our volunteer family!
